Barbara L. LanierSopranoBarbara L. Lanier grew up in North Dakota, where she had leading roles in numerous stage productions, musicals, and operas, including the Countess in Marriage of Figaro, Suzanne in Suzanne's Secret, and Jenny Diver in Three Penny Opera. Since moving to Berkeley in 1973, she has appeared as a frequent soloist with various Bay Area choruses, including Contra Costa Chorale, Berkeley Community Chorus, Berkeley Harmonia, and the Mastersingers. In recent years, Ms. Lanier has performed in the Berkeley Opera productions of Il Tabarro, Luisa Miller, Marriage of Figaro, La Rondine, Carmen, and Penelope. Her previous appearances as soloist with Contra Costa Chorale include Bach's St. Matthew Passion, Barber's Prayers of Kierkegaard, Schubert's Mass in E Flat Major, Haydn's The Four Seasons, Mass in Time of War, and Missa Brevis, and a 2000 Chorale performance of Handel's Creation. Last spring she had the honor of singing the premiere performance of Thaddeus Pinkston's original aria Te Deum. Ms. Lanier has been a member of the Seattle Symphony Chorus and the San Francisco Symphony Chorus. Ms. Lanier is a partner with the El Cerrito law firm of Black, Brown, Lanier and Jackson, specializing in estate planning, probate, and conservatorships. She serves on the board of directors for the Probate and Trust Section of the Contra Costa County Bar Association, is past president of Berkeley Opera's board of directors, and is regional fellowship director of Soroptimists International.
