Carolyn Yannow

Soprano

Carolyn Yannow studies voice with Vyna Restell. A former cellist, Ms. Yannow was a music major at Scripps College, Claremont, California, before studying philosophy at Pomona. She was a soloist with the Four College Choir, Pomona College Glee Club, and U.C. Alumni Chorus on tour to Seattle, Portland, and Australia and New Zealand, respectively. At U.C. Berkeley she was a soloist with the Glee Club, toured to Redding with the Perfect Fifth (a 12-member a capella group), and held a joint recital with tenor Kaveh Niazi, with Sarah Cahill at the piano. At Oxford she joined the Bach Choir with Simon Preston (the organist) conducting and sang professionally with the St. John's Chapel Choir. (She replaced a boy soprano or "treble" and had to sight-read music in performance.)

Singing in the Oakland Symphony Chorus led her to the Festival Opera in Walnut Creek and Oakland Lyric Opera. Recently she has appeared extensively with the Lamplighters in San Francisco. She joined the Contra Costa Chorale in 1994 and has had numerous solos, as well as appearing as soloist with the Contra Costa Chamber Choir.
