John WilsonBaritoneJohn Wilson is from Montana, where he sang in various choruses and small groups, including the Montana State University Montanans, the school's premiere small ensemble. Highlights included a USO tour of Germany in 1963. Since moving to the Bay Area in 1966, he has appeared as a soloist with various Bay Area choruses, including Contra Costa Chorale, Berkeley Community Chorus, and Berkeley Harmonia. Mr. Wilson has been a member of the Oakland Symphony Chorus and the San Francisco Symphony Chorus, and has sung in numerous Berkeley Opera productions. Solo performances in baritone roles include Handel's Messiah, Brahms' Requiem, Puccini's Messa di Gloria, Mozart's Requiem, Saint-Saens' Christmas Oratorio, Faure's Penelope (first suitor), Bloch's Sacred Service (the Cantor), and Handel's Passion with text by Brocke (Jesus). He is best known to his friends and family as a folksinger, knowing the lyrics to at least 1000 songs. Mr. Wilson also appeared in a solo role with Contra Costa Chorale as Pontius Pilate in Bach's St. Matthew Passion. |
