Lowell Silverman

Violin

Lowell Silverman began studying the violin at age 10 with Robin Welch, a student of Mehli Mehta, and at age 13 he began studying with Mehli Mehta (the father of Zubin Mehta). His orchestral career began at age 16 with the American Youth Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Mehli Mehta. Upon his graduation from Pacific Palisades High School, he was awarded both the Bank of America and Herb Alpert Scholarships for musical achievement. Lowell furthered his studies at UCLA and received his BA in violin performance with a minor in biochemistry. At that time he performed with the UCLA Symphony and studied violin with Alex Traeger, the assistant concertmaster of the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

In 1991 Lowell entered the UC Berkeley School of Optometry and he completed his degree in 1997, while remaining active in violin performance. Currently Lowell is a member of the Stockton Symphony and is also an instructor of both violin and piano.
