Michael Crane grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota. He has been playing clarinet since elementary school days. He studied clarinet with Earl Handlon of the Minneapolis Symphony, whose most well known student was Robert Marcellus, principal clarinetist for the Cleveland Symphony. He currently plays in community musical groups including the Kensington Symphony Orchestra and the Kensington Woodwind Quintet, which provides musical programs for local schools as well as private functions.

He has his own business providing management consulting services for large national corporations. He serves on the Board of Directors of Windrush School and the Kensington Symphony Orchestra.
